Description/Job Summary

Maintenance Technician Sr. I
POSITION OBJECTIVE Perform duties required to maintain and repair polyethylene blown film extrusion lines with conveying and winding equipment and multi-lane bag machines with auto pack equipment. Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures in mechanical and electrical related field.
  2. Minimum of 3 years mechanical and/or electrical experience maintaining industrial equipment or equivalent 
  3. Ability to work shift work, weekends and 12 hour shifts
  4. High School diploma or equivalent, preferred
  5. PC skills/aptitude in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Internet Explorer, preferre

  1. CPR/First Aid Certification, preferred     
  2. Knowledge of AC/DC drives and motors, preferred
  3. Welding Skills, preferred
  4. Basic Fabricating Skills, preferred
  5. Forklift, Scissor-lift, boom-lift operator training
  6. Successful completion of maintenance training matrix with eligible score for next step progression
  1. Ensure GMP are exerted throughout the production process
  2. Ensure production process follows SQF Code       

 Knowledge and ability to make decisions on equipment repairs and process requisitions for parts. All other decision-making through Supervisor.
Fabrication skills:
  1. Read the following types of prints: Electrical, machine, building and flow control diagrams.
  2. Work from blueprints, sketches, manuals, extremely close specifications and instructions from maintenance supervisor.
  3. Design and build complex parts, frames and stands.
  4. Cut out square and parallel openings in guards and panels.
  5. Build electrical panels from as built prints.
Maintenance Skills:
  1. Arc, MIG, TIG welding, sweat copper and solder.
  2. Perform precise mechanical adjustments and repairs and dismantle devices to remove and replace defective parts.
  3. Rebuild mechanical parts and equipment.
  4. Perform preventative maintenance on extruders and bag machines according to close specifications and standardized procedures
  5. Communicate with appropriate production personnel regarding mechanical problems and provide technical assistance as required. 
  6. Detect and report any unusual conditions or defective equipment to maintenance supervisor.  Notify electrical supervisor of any major electrical problems.
  7. Evaluate and make recommendations for machine improvement and upgrades.
  8. Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition. Follow prescribed safety rules and regulations.
  9. Operate forklift, scissor lift, bucket truck, forklift boom.
  10. Troubleshoot rotary and piston type compressors, PM air compressors. Troubleshoot air dryers and know how to repair and service oil/water traps.
  11. Replace, rebuild and troubleshoot water pumps.
  12. Calculate gear ratios.
  13. Work with close tolerances.
  14. Design pneumatic controls.
  15. Thread pipe 
Electrical Skills:
  1. Calculate wire size required for different amp circuits.
  2. Understand voltage and amp rating based on wire type.
  3. Troubleshoot live electrical circuits on bag machines, auto packs, binders, ultra-Sonics, winders, un-winders, and printing press.
  4.  (Testing only), Turn on or off extruder, feed hoppers by going inside live electrical feed hopper control panels.
  5. Troubleshoot live electrical circuits on air conditioning units and water chillers.
  6. Adjust extruder treater electrodes.
  7. Remove and replace die heater bands.
  8. Repair and rebuild bag machine hot knifes.
  9. Understand the grounding requirements for electrical panels, panel doors, electrical covers and guards.
  10. Replace bearings and motor brushes.
  11. Clean commutator, check for out of balance condition, align motor pulleys, level motor bases and check motor current and motor size for appropriate applications.
  12. Ability and knowledge on calibrations and programming of digital readouts. Examples: Melt Pressure, fpm indicators, Omron cam controllers and edge guides.
  13. Program AC/DC drives
       Lifting raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position.  Degree of lifting: 26-50lbs.
