Description/Job Summary

IT Technician A – Non-Exempt
Position Objective
Safely perform repairs, do maintenance, installation work on various computers and networks upon request.
 Duties & Responsibilities
  • Maintain computer network systems.
  • Installs and maintains desktop computers.
  • Installs and maintains network components including switches, cabling, and related.
  • Prepares documentation, including drawings, forms or related information with current status of network.
  • Supports AV equipment for remote conferencing.
  • Help desk support to include end user training as needed, and general troubleshooting of end user issues.
  • Support email – create or remove Corporate email accounts.
  • Supports TEO phone system connections and trouble shooting.
  • Must have regular, reliable attendance and willing to work outside the regular schedule as required.
  • Able to appropriately manage own time and time of others.
  • Ability to adjust to “unforeseen” problems
  • Willing to handle job stress and interact with others in the workplace.
Machines, Tools, Equipment, Electronic Devices & Software
  • Desktop PC – daily activity.  Understand popular operating systems, how to install, troubleshoot and offer help desk support.
  • Network (L2 and L3) switch – daily activity.  Understand how to setup, install, VLAN and RSTP usage.
  • Cat5(e,6) Network cabling – daily activity.  Know how to install keystone jacks, plugs, test cables.
  • Fiber – several times a week.  Test or install fiber able, use fusion splicer to repair fiber as needed, understand color codes and installation order of multi-strand fibers.
  • AV equipment – several times a month.  Understand and support Cisco codecs, Skype and other remote broadcast systems work.
  • Software – daily activity.  Windows XP 7 10 and Windows Server O/S – install troubleshoot or configure features.
  • Software – daily activity.  Linux OS – install and configure.
  • Software – daily activity.  MS Office 2007, 2010, 2013 and higher versions, other general software, install, configure (i.e. Pivot Tables) and troubleshoot.
  • Copy machines and printers – following menus and diagnosing problems.
  • Hand tools – several times a month.  Drills, screwdrivers, punch down tools for network cable, solder equipment, and other as needed to accomplish the assigned task.
  • Weekly, annual safety training required, as directed by management.

Authority/Decision Making
  • Minimal decision making – no supervisory authority
  • Fill out issue request for needed materials, daily paperwork associated with job orders.
Physical Activity Required For This Position
  • Climbing, ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like,    using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.  Body agility is emphasized.
  • Balancing, maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces.
  • Stooping, bending body downward and forward by bending spine and waist. Example: Changing paper in printer, copier machine.
  • Kneeling, bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
  • Reaching, extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. Example: giving signals, reaching for material or handle on item.
  • Walking, moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances.
  • Pulling, using upper extremities to exert force in order to drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Lifting, raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. DEGREE OF LIFTING:5-25 lbs.
  • Grasping, applying pressure to an object with fingers and palm.
  • Talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; via face to face or telephone.
  • Hearing, perceiving the nature of sounds with no less than a 40 db. Loss @ 500 Hz, 1,000 Hz and 2,000 Hz with or without correction.  Ability to receive verbal communication and to make fine discriminations in sound, such as when making fine adjustments on machined parts.
Required Qualifications
  • GED / High School Diploma. 
  • Previous Experience in IT
  • Excellent communication skills.
Recommended Qualifications
  • BS/BA in IT
  • AAS or certificate in General IT
